Case Study: Crayford, London Borough of Bexley
Our role
Chess Engage led the stakeholder engagement programme for the revised plans of a consented brownfield development in Crayford for a new residential development of 559 new homes of political, regional, and local importance. The site was allocated in the Bexley Local Plan and has an allocation of GLA funding.
Our approach
We designed and managed a comprehensive consultation strategy to align local interests with the developer's goals including:
- Political outreach: Conducted direct briefings with the MP for Bexley and Crayford, the Leader of Bexley Council, Portfolio Holders, and ward councillors.
- Environmental collaboration: Partnered with the Bexley Natural Environment Forum (BNEF) to focus on local wildlife and habitat protection.
- On-site dialogue: Led an exclusive site tour with BNEF members to openly discuss sustainable development and urban biodiversity.
The Results
Our engagement process directly shaped the final site plans and secured critical local and financial support:. Feedback from the consultation and engagement influenced the design of the scheme such as reduced building heights, enhanced highway infrastructure, and expanded cycling and walking paths. The application was approved by the London Borough of Bexley's Planning Committee on 13 April 2023.
